Discord

Post an embed in a Discord channel when a release needs review, goes live or is rejected, with a link to it.

  • review needed
  • release live

Vendor docs

What it does

  • A Stoaken webhook sent as a Discord message posts an embed to one channel through a Discord channel webhook.
  • The embed's title is "Release v1.4.0 of Brand · Theme needs review" (or "is live", or "was rejected"), linked to the release, with the change count (and the reason, for a rejection) below. Its colour follows the event.
  • Mentions are switched off, so a Brand or theme name can't ping anyone.

Before you start

  • Brand Admin on the Brand (webhooks are part of the Team plan).
  • Manage Webhooks permission on the Discord channel.

Setup

  1. In Discord, open the channel's Edit Channel > Integrations > Webhooks, choose New Webhook, name it (say "Stoaken") and choose Copy Webhook URL.
  2. In Stoaken, go to Settings > Webhooks and choose Add a webhook:
    • Send as: Discord message
    • Address: the webhook URL, https://discord.com/api/webhooks/ID/TOKEN
    • Events: any of the three.
  3. To post into a thread, add ?thread_id=THREAD_ID to the address.

Configuration

  • The body is { "embeds": [one embed], "allowed_mentions": { "parse": [] } }. The embed has title (at most 256 characters), url, description, color, timestamp and a footer, within Discord's embed limits (Discord).
  • The webhook's own name and avatar are used; Stoaken doesn't override them.
  • Requests carry webhook-id but no Stoaken signature. The token in the address is the secret.
  • Stoaken only sends this format to https://discord.com/api/webhooks/… (optionally /api/v10/webhooks/… and ?thread_id=). More on formats: /docs/webhooks.

Try it

  1. On the webhook, choose Send test. A grey "Stoaken test" embed appears, and Discord answers 204.
  2. In the webhook lab, choose Send a sample with Release published. A teal embed marked [Test] appears.

Troubleshooting

  • 404 Unknown Webhook: the webhook was deleted in Discord, or the token in the address is wrong. Copy it again.
  • 400: check Send as is Discord message, not Stoaken event. Discord's reason shows in Recent deliveries.
  • 429: Discord's rate limit. Stoaken retries the delivery later.
  • A thread address fails: the thread id must be in the webhook's channel.

Limits

  • One channel (or thread) per webhook; a Brand has at most 10.
  • Anyone with the address can post as the webhook. If it leaks, delete it in Discord and make a new one.
  • Failed deliveries retry for about a day (/docs/webhooks).
