Brand Book pages

Your own writing in the Brand Book: pages in chapters, with the real system inside them (colour ramps, roles, type, spacing, components, icons and logo sets) drawn live from each release. Pages ship through releases, like tokens.

What pages are

Pages are the guidance your tokens can’t hold: your story, your voice, how to use the logo, what good photography looks like. They sit in the Brand Book beside the sections built from your system, grouped in chapters.

Open Book in the sidebar and choose Pages (beside The book). The list on the left holds your chapters and pages (an orange dot marks a page that isn’t released yet); the middle is the page itself, in the Brand’s own colours and type, as readers will see it; the right side holds the page’s settings, the embeds on it and its history.

Good to know: Writing a page needs a computer: the Book page is desktop-only on a phone. Readers read pages anywhere.

Writing a page

Write as you would anywhere: headings, lists, bold, italics and links from the toolbar. Type / at the start of a line, or press Insert, for one menu of everything a page can hold. Undo and redo are in the toolbar too (Ctrl or Cmd + Z).

From your system
Token swatch (a token, inline in a sentence), Colour ramp (a whole family, as a ramp, swatches or a table), Colour roles (with their contrast), Type specimen, Spacing scale, a component, icons (a few by name, or the set) and a Logo set. Each opens a picker with a preview; the page keeps the name, not the value.
Writing
Headings, lists, quotes, a Callout (a note, a brand point or a careful), and Do / Don’t pairs in words or pictures.
Pictures
PNG, JPEG or WebP up to 10 MB. Each needs Alt text: a few words saying what it shows, for people who can’t see it. A page with a picture that has none waits to be saved, and says why.

Everything saves by itself a couple of seconds after you stop (in one go, not per key). If a save fails, the page says so with Try again right there, and your change stays put.

The Page settings hold the title, the address (the part after # in the book’s link; it follows the title until the page is released), the chapter, a summary (Board tiles and the Spec sheet show it), a cover picture and Shows in these layouts. Remove this page keeps it under Removed, where Bring back returns it.

Live from each release

An embed stores what it points at (a token’s name, a component, icon names, a logo set), never a copy. The book draws it from the release it was built from, with a quiet “live from v2.3” line, so a swatch can’t go stale. In the editor, embeds show the live release; the next release shows what it changes.

If a release removes something a page shows, readers see a calm note in its place (“Icon check was removed in v2.4.”), never a broken block.

Pages ship with releases

Nothing you write reaches readers until a release carries it. A strip says how many pages changed and are not released yet, and that readers still see the live release; See what changes lists them and Propose a release opens the propose page for the Brand’s main theme. A release with only page changes can be sent: pages count as changes, like icons and logos.

A new page or chapter
A minor version.
An edit
Words, embeds, pictures, the title, summary, cover, layouts or place: a patch.
Removing a page or a chapter, or changing a page’s address
Breaking: links to it stop working. A major version, and velocity leaves it to a reviewer.

The review shows each page with a word-level diff and its embed changes. When a page shows something the release removes, it warns you, with Edit the page or Ship it with the note. A page’s History tab compares it with the released copy, and Undo all changes since that release puts it back.

In every layout and on Community

Each page is a section of the book, so Customise layout places it like any other: Docs groups pages under their chapters in the rail, Editorial gives each page a chapter spread, Board a tile that opens in place, Chapters a page of its own, and the Spec sheet keeps pages hidden until an Admin shows them. A public book’s pages appear on the Brand’s Community page exactly as in the book.

Plans

Pages are part of the Team plan (and Enterprise), as many as you need; Light includes up to 5 pages; Free has none, and the Pages tab explains what they are with Upgrade to Team and Compare plans.

Moving to a plan with fewer pages never deletes any. The book is rebuilt with the pages the plan includes, readers see nothing about it, and Owners and Admins see how many are hidden on the Book page. Moving back brings them back.

Editor
Writes pages and chapters.
Admin
Also arranges where pages show (Customise layout).
Everyone
Reads the pages in the book.
