Building a release
The full-page way to propose a release: theme, changes, version, reviewers and when it publishes.
Step by step
- Pick the theme. Its colour dot is the same one you see on every other screen.
- Check What it sends: every change against the live release, mode by mode.
- Choose patch, minor or major; the version is suggested and you can change it.
- Pick reviewers: people who are Reviewers on this Brand, groups, or both.
- Showcase components (off until you switch it on): each component appears as a card drawn live with the theme, so you can see what you are picking. Pick up to 12; the first time you switch it on, those that use a changed token are picked to start with. Reviewers see them first in the review, drawn live before and after, one after another.
- Choose when it goes live: When approved, or At a set time: one field for the day and the time, with quick picks (tomorrow morning, Monday, a week on), a calendar and a column of times, said back to you in words.
- Send for review. If it can’t be sent yet, rest the pointer on the button and it says why (nothing changed yet, no version, a time that has passed).
Above the button, a line says which of your tools hear about it: who is told when you send it (On Send: Slack and Jira), and what publishing sets off once it is approved (Vercel rebuilds and Slack is told). The review says the same beside Approve. Everyone who can see the Brand sees it (never an address or an error); nothing is said when no tool listens.
Tip: A release approved before its set time waits as Scheduled; the live release stays live until then. It goes live at that time, or the first time anyone opens Stoaken after it.
Icons and logos in a release
A release is the theme’s tokens plus the Brand’s icons and logo sets. Under What it sends, Icons & logos lists what changed since the Brand last released them: icons added, changed, renamed, deprecated and removed; logos added, changed, renamed, moved and removed; sets added, renamed and removed. A release with only icon or logo changes is fine.
Icons and logos belong to the Brand, so they ride ONE theme’s release. By default that is the Brand’s main theme: its first theme (every Brand starts with Default). On another theme, switch on Include them in this release to ship them there instead; on the main theme, switching it off leaves them Not released yet. Once they are live in one release, they no longer show as unreleased anywhere.
The suggested version counts them too: adding an icon, a logo or a logo set is minor; a new drawing or file, tags, notes or details (or deprecating an icon) is a patch; removing or renaming an icon or a logo, or deleting a set, is major and breaking, because code and files use the old names. With velocity on, a breaking icon or logo change waits for a reviewer.
